Manual

The RoboSplit Manual provides detailed information about RoboSplit features and explains the meaning of all available options and settings. It is provided in two forms: an on-line document and a zipped file for off-line reading.

Web FAQ

The Web FAQ is the up-to-date version of the RoboSplit FAQ.

1. Where can I get the latest version of RoboSplit?

The latest version of RoboSplit can be downloaded from the application home page.

2. Can I use RoboSplit for splitting files of any kind?

Yes, RoboSplit is able to split and recreate files of any kind. It regards files as transparent binary streams of data.

3. I used RoboSplit to split an .avi, .wma ... file and I cannot play the pieces. Why?

RoboSplit is not aware of the internal structure of multimedia files. As a result chunks, which it produces, are not playable. If you want the chunks to be playable you need to use other kind of software - a multimedia file splitter.

4. Recreation of a large file succeeds on some of my computers, however, it fails on other ones. Why?

The source of the problem seems to be different file systems used on the two groups of computers. The FAT file system (FAT16 and FAT32) supports files with maximum size of 4 GB (2^32 bytes). The NTFS file system supports files as large as 16 EB (1 exabyte = 2^64 bytes). If you split a large file on a machine which uses the NTFS file system and you later try to recreate it on a computer using the FAT file system the job fails. This is because of the limitation of the destination computer file system.

5. I have all the original file chunks, however, I lost the .rsi/.rsi.exe file. Can I have the original file recreated despite this obstacle?

Yes, use the command stated below. However, keep in mind that this procedure does not perform CRC check on the recreated file and thus should be used in the last resort only.

C:\copy /b chunk#.1+chunk#.2+chunk#.n orig_file

6. Job List files created with RoboSplit v0.0.0 fail to open with RoboSplit v0.1.0 and later. Why?

Beginning with version 0.1.0 RoboSplit uses a new Job List file format (.rsl file). Please recreate your Job List files with the latest version of RoboSplit.
