Wireless makes endoscopy painless

From "Wireless Technology Could Make Endoscopies Less Scary," by Michael Sciannamea, The Wireless Weblog, 24 September:

"According to Dr. Henry J. Fishman at ConsumerAffairs.com, it won't be long before we see endoscopies become all wireless. As you may know, an endoscopy is a minimally invasive medical procedure used to evaluate internal organs by the insertion of a small scope in the body... Dr. Fishman says wireless endoscopies would be performed by a patient swallowing a pill-sized capsule that features a camera, light, battery, and transmitter. The capsule is ingested into the small intestine the way food is, and the camera takes two pictures a second and transmits the images to a receiver the patient would wear on his/her waist. Eventually, the capsule is passed through the body as waste. If this comes to pass in the near future, this certainly would spur people to get themselves checked for all types of potential illnesses without having to feel afraid of a tube being placed into their bodies."
