NEWSJapan releases draft rules for unlicensed UWBFrom "Japan's UWB emission policy advances," EE Times, 26 August 2005: "Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has given preliminary approval to an ultrawideband (UWB) emissions policy... The ministry intends to complete its deliberations and field testing by the end of the year. U.S. companies applauded the move. "The Japanese Ministry's UWB unlicensed spectrum allocation is initially between 3.4 and 4.8 GHz and between 7.25 and 10.25 GHz for indoor devices. The allocation requires the implementation of detection and avoidance techniques for the 3.4- to 4.8-GHz band to ensure coexistence with incumbent systems and new services such as 4G. [The emission limit] from 3.4 to 4.75 GHz and from 7.25 to 10.25 GHz is -41.3dBm/MHz, the same as limits approved by the US Federal Communications Commission... "Approval of the Japanese policy 'will greatly accelerate the adoption of UWB by regulatory bodies worldwide,' Roberto Aiello, cofounder and chief technical officer of Staccato Communications (San Diego), said in a statement..."
