Taiwan research center's "flying" 3D mouse

From "ITRI Unveils Wireless Flying Mouse," Taiwan Economic News (via the Center for Embedded Networked Sensing), 29 May:

"A micro system technology laboratory under the government-backed Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) recently unveiled a wireless flying mouse, which can be moved and rotated in the air for 3-dimension object manipulation.

"With the 3D device mounted on wrist, users can play interactive computer games and make presentations wirelessly. Five joystick suppliers including KYE Systems Corp. of Taiwan have approached the laboratory over the licensing deal.

"The laboratory pointed out that the flying-mouse technology makes uses of computers and digital appliances easy and free and the mouse consumes only one twentieth the power that an average optical mouse uses, making it attractive to joystick suppliers..."
