Buddhist Psychotherapy ???!!?
Some say even such a nonsense that the Buddha's Teaching is
Psychotherapy.
This is a shortsighted approach of some overzealous Buddhists, who do not see
the harm
they do to both the proper understanding of the Buddha's Teaching
and to the seriously conceived Psychotherapy.
Buddhist Psychotherapy (same as the Buddhist gynecology) is harmful,
especially when done by a "Buddhist" without psychological (resp. medical) erudition.
It is not enough to chant Buddhist formulas while poking someone's mind (resp. other organ),
to call it the Buddhist psychotherapy (or Buddhist gynecology).
See a university lecture by a Buddhist monk who is a former psychotherapist
Dr. Mirko Fryba:
Why
no Buddhist Psychotherapy
and an interview of two Buddhist monks on the
Uses
and Abuses
of the Buddha’s Dhamma in Healing, Psychotherapy and Counselling
For wholesome alternatives to Buddhist Psychotherapy see information on a scientifically founded
psychotherapy that uses some procedures based on the Buddhist Abhidhamma and Vipassana :
Satitherapy
