:: The Invitation to Arboretum Bílá Lhota Sight-seeing ::

The Bílá Lhota Arboretum was laid out about the year 1700 at the time of the reconstruction of the local mansion house. The original design of the grounds has been never found out; however, we may assume, that only native woody plants were planted here: oaks, beeches, lime - trees and spruce. Some of these trees are still to be found growing in the area of this park.

During the years 1792-1840 Johann Albert Speil von Ostheim was the owner of this demesne, the mansion house and the park. His daughter married Konradin Kreutzer, a conductor of the Josefstädter - Theater in Vienna. He was staying here several times and in 1833 he composed here the music to his opera A Night in Granada.

Since 1869 the family Riedel was in possession of the estate.

In 1926 Quido Riedel, at that time already a well-known specialist - dendrologist, came to Bílá Lhota and began laying out the park according to his own ideas. He succeeded excellently in creating a fine collection of exotic woody plants as well as an aesthetically valuable park. In an area of almost 3 hectares he concentrated five hundred species and forms of ornamental woody plants.

Unto the present time two hundred and sixty Quido Riedel's taxons have been preserved. And nearly three hundred other plants have been planted since 1966 when the park has been in charge of the Regional Museum in Olomouc.
